Okay, technically this isn’t an actual makeover. We recently moved into a new home, so rather than making over an old home office space, I really started with a brand new one. But still, after years of working among scattered files and out of a workspace that lacked “inspiration” (to say the least), this feels like a makeover. (So there, let’s just go with it.)
Home Office Organized Workspace
With every move is the opportunity to make a fresh start, and that’s what this workspace is for me. Although it’s still a work in progress, I couldn’t wait to share what I’ve done so far. It’s a simple, mix-and-match balance of decor: I decided to choose some inexpensive, more affordable pieces so that I could spend more on others (a hodgepodge, if you will). I went with a desk from IKEA, for example, so that I could then splurge on this dreamy lateral file cabinet from Room & Board. The cabinet (which I purchased in the shell stain with steel hardware) not only has the capacity to house all my files in one place (I get giddy at just the thought of it), but also doubles as a workspace where my printer and scanner can be stationed, allowing my desk to remain clean and uncluttered (yeah…we’ll see how long that lasts).
Home Office Motivational Decor and Organized Bookcase
I decided to hang framed motivational messages (found at a local Home Goods store) on the wall to keep me on track, and remind me why I’m doing this everyday. (And as anyone who runs a business from home knows, we need all the motivation and inspiration we can get.) A bookcase and woven baskets (also from IKEA…what can I say, they worked for this space) provide further organization options.
Home Office Pinboard Style
A multi-purpose pinboard allows me to pin up and switch out additional inspiration (and other keepsakes) whenever I feel like it, and it also gives me an excuse to use these adorable push pins I found on Etsy. This first group of pins — from Etsy shop, My Sweet Maison — are made from vintage jewelry and repurposed into unique, one-of-a-kind push pins. How clever is that? And they’re so pretty!
And these decorative glass push pins — from Etsy shop, Funky Chicken Design — add fun and subtle pops of color. Seriously, I can barely stand the cuteness:
Home Office Stylish Desk Chair
Well, if I haven’t nerded out on you enough just yet, I have to mention my new desk chair, which seems to be everyone’s favorite when they enter the room. And how could it not be the star of the show? I didn’t want a traditional office chair, so I went with a vintage-inspired dining chair from Cost Plus World Market. While they seem to be out of the “peacock” blue color/style combination I chose, they still have other eye-catching options available, like this identical round back chair in plum or this similar style chair in peacock blue (both available at the time this post was published).
So what do you think? What kind of touches do you include in your home office to make it a place that will motivate and inspire? Please comment…I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
