On the heels of last week’s post about my Paleo granola bars, I had to share an even easier recipe for the perfect on-the-go snack: homemade trail mix. Like my granola bars, this Paleo trail mix is high in protein, fiber and healthy fats (and rather scrumptious too!).
Sure, you can find many trail mix options already prepared and packaged in the stores, but they are usually filled with additives and undesirable ingredients that are either not Paleo or not agreeable for those with food sensitivities (like me).
So I figured, why not just make my own? By making it yourself, you’ll know every ingredient that’s going into your homemade trail mix, a key component to clean eating. And having a snack like this handy while you’re traveling, running errands or anywhere on-the-go will make you less likely to reach for an unhealthy alternative (like one of those impulse-buy candy bars that taunt you while you’re in the market checkout line…I know you know what I’m talking about). So “go nuts” and enjoy this healthy protein-packed treat — a Paleo trail mix that’s flavor-filled and guilt-free:

(gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, vegan)
- 1 cup raw cashews
- ½ cup raw almonds (I used whole but you can used sliced if you prefer)
- ½ cup raw pecans or walnuts
- 2 organic Medjool dates, pitted and chopped OR ¼ cup organic raisins
- ¼ cup allergen-free chocolate chips
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- (Feel free to also add unsweetened coconut flakes and sunflower and/or pumpkin seeds if you prefer.)
-
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Toss until ingredients are thoroughly mixed and sea salt is evenly distributed. That's it!
-
Store in a sealed plastic zipper storage bag or an airtight container in the refrigerator (a glass container is always preferred). Enjoy!
